Intermediate Algebra

1. The Real-Number System

Description

Starting this subject, we begin by sets and Real numbers such as fractions, signed numbers and decimals.  We continue by exploring properties of Real numbers as well as operations with Real numbers such as order of operations.

Sections in this topic include:

1.  Sets and Real Numbers

This section begins with the notion of sets including set notation, symbols, finite, infinite and empty sets, unions and intersects of sets, and sets and subsets of Real numbers

2.  Properties of Real Numbers

This section addresses how to recognize and use symbols of equality and inequality, use symbols of operations, understand and work with absolute value, identifity and use the properties of equality and of Real numbers

3.  Operations with Real Numbers

This section investigates operations of real numbers such as order of operations, evaluating expressions, and using properties of real numbers.  Groups in this section include simplifying real numbers using order of operations; evaluting expressions using order of operations; identifying properties of real numbers; and determining whether a mathematical statement is true or false.
